About

About me

My name is Jackie Melendez, I have been dancing for 16 years and have been teaching choreography for at least half that time. My passion for dance started as soon as I could stand up on my own. My professional training began when I was 5 when I started dancing hip-hop at Step 1 Dance and Fitness. I danced all through middle school, which is where I got my first taste of choreography. I was in the after school program Club Live and the dance routine I made won the award for best choreography in a city wide competition. During Freshman year (2003) I began dancing with the school club, Circle of Elements. Sophomore year I danced for the Step 1 competition hip-hop team, and continued to do so for two years. In 2005, my Junior year, I tried out and started dancing for the Natomas High School cheerleader dance team. During Junior year I was also asked to choreograph a dance routine for “Objectivo Fama” which was aired on Univision and Telefutura. From 2005-2010 I have worked for the South Natomas Community Center, and during that time I have taught dance in the after school programs throughout the year. In the end of 2010 I attended training and received my certification to teach Zumba.
